Four against three at two speeds: running sixteenths over triplets, then a broad octave melody in 3/4, before a coda that brings the Hummingbird riff back.

About
Justin Pincar
I write piano music. I created these three pieces as a set for Flower Piano, when the San Francisco Botanical Garden puts pianos out among the plants for anyone to play. It’s why they’re named the way they are: a hummingbird, a garden for watching the moon, a hillside in bloom.
All three pieces are original. The harmony and rhythm are inspired by FKJ’s Just Piano, the inner melodies by Liszt, and the polyrhythms by Chopin. The riffs sit high on the keyboard, so the sound carries well outdoors and blends beautifully even when the piano is slightly out of tune.
Each one comes with its sheet music, fingering included. Read along while you listen, or print it out and try it yourself. Let me know what you think!
